So, I decided that Alexander needs some love. Everyone is sacrificing him on the island, putting him down, etc. He needs more support. So, say something nice about the Founding Father.

Well. I'm not a Hamilton fan, as we discussed, I think; but I do have one nice thing to say about him: he was quite good-looking! =)

The man attacked life with a passion that few will ever know. I tip my hat to that. Part of me pities him for the hard ships and disadvantages of the time he was born into, another part of me admires him for the audacious way he over came them, and part of me slams my head on the desk for the way that he sabotaged his own success.

He was brilliant. And he's one of the most influential minds in the formation of this country, even if he never was a president, he's shaped our nation's identity more than many of our presidents actually did.

I admire him a lot, actually. My car is named "Hamilton" after him (duh) and I have an Alexander Hamilton keychain.

Lora, I think you summed up my feelings towards Hamilton with eloquence. Quite possibly our most brilliant and equally probably our most frustrating founder of all.
And where did you get a Hamilton keychain? Do they have them for other Founders?

I ordered it online years ago. I bet you could find one!

True story. Me at Post Office:

Postal Worker helping me mail things: So, you must really like Thomas Jefferson.

Me: ..... Yes. How did you know????

Postal Worker: Your keychain.

Me: .... that's Alexander Hamilton.

FAIL.

Epic fail...but who knows, maybe they were sort of psychic. You do, after all, like Jefferson...quite a bit, as I remember.

Of course I like Hammy! The world wouldn't be the same without him.

I admit to being a huge fan of Hamilton... actually, Hamilton was the reason that I started to read The Dreamer. I'm in American history at school, and I found that the more I learned about the fellow the more that I admired him. I read Ron Chernow's biography, Alexander Hamilton, and let me tell you- the book gives him so much personality that it's hard not to love him. Also, Hamilton was simply pure fun in The Dreamer, and I hope he'll be making a reappearance. "The 'captain' part is new, but the rest, m'lady, is all the same." ^_^

I'm not re reading Chernow's biography of Hamilton, and I forgot what a facinating person he was.

There was never really a dull moment in his life, from his illigitamate birth in the Carribean, to his fatal duel with the Vice President.

I could go on and on! Laughing

We must correct this injustice!!!

I was with my friend, going to see Harry Potter, and I was talking about Hamilton to her and she asked me who I was talking about!!!

Shocked

"Alexander Hamilton? The guy on the $10 bill? One of the founding fathers? (so on and so forth for about a minute)"

Friend: I guess I missed school that day.

We're going to have to take over the school system you guys.

That's what every home school parent I know says... Shocked
But then again, when the only reason my friends, (public, private, OR home schooled), know the historic figures they do is because they sometimes can't get me to shut up about them...I have to agree.

This is exactly why I, former homeschooler that I am, want to be a history teacher. I also want to write an American History textbook that meets my standards (the one for AP US History at my high school was very disappointing; I picked out lots of typos and missing/incorrect information, and it was boring as well).

But really, there are so many fascinating things to know about Hamilton (to name just one person), and it's a shame that so many people don't know at least some of them.

That's awesome! And I know, right? I know a 12 year old girl named Hamilton after Hammy and she didn't know ANYTHING about him other than the fact he's on the ten dollor bill. Of course I did take the liberty of fixing that as soon as she said she wanted to learn about him... Surprised

There's not really a place to talk about the progression of each chapter so here's my Hamilton thought:

Hamilton is kind of a jerk as seen in today's comic. But at least his name will live in infamy...on our $10 bill. He is good-looking though I love you.

I kind of want Bea to tell him his face will be remembered forever in a snide way.

Even if Bea meant to be snide... it would totally go to his head anyway. The last thing she needs to tell snotty-nosed teenage Hamilton is that he's going to be famous and powerful!!!
